Firewall bypass...?

I am on the a LAN of a university and all the ports are closed except http. I've installed http-tunnel to redirect traffic from other ports to http. It works well but only with programs to which their connectivity can be modified in the settings menu(i.e mirc have a section in the menu related to connectivity). Is there a way to be able to force software to connect to a specified port other way than its menu?

google SOCKS proxy program.

with this all you need is one open port and you can forward almost any protocol through 80.

i don't know how much you're willing to spend but it works.

good luck

possibly, the best way would to be break into your network server closet, shutdown the router, then slam your janitors head into it three times, no more than five. Then say a few obscure prayers and turn it back on.

ok now seriously.

Best bet is that your local computer science professor will know his way around the router to open up the ports. This can only be done by obtaining a special local intranet adress. Each adress varies per network. your computer science teacher likely runs the network, or knows his way around it and could help you out.
