Actually, the procedure for windows calculator is easier than that:

Enter the number

Click inv (it's one of the white checkboxes toward the upper-left hand corner)

Click x^3

This compute the inverse function of x^3, which is the cube root of x. This saves you a bit of time entering fractional exponents.

Windows calculator is easy. Get in the scientific view.

enter the number

click x^y

enter (1/3)

click =

you will get the answer.
For cube roots you can also click the INV box before pressing X^3, in the windows calculator.
In calc.exe (Windows Calculator) press (keystrokes in %26lt;%26gt;):

%26lt;number%26gt; %26lt;x^y%26gt; %26lt;(%26gt; %26lt;1%26gt; %26lt;/%26gt; %26lt;3%26gt; %26lt;)%26gt; %26lt;=%26gt;

In Excel:

=POWER(%26lt;number%26gt;,1/3)

In Google search for:

%26lt;number%26gt;^(1/3)
