How can i stop people from hotlinking downloads from external sites?

many people are linking to downloads on my site without my permission, and as a result, i am losing bandwidth quickly without my site even being recognized. is there a way to have the download always take it back to the download page and then download it. so it can only be downloaded from my site

ive seen it before like

testsite.com/file.zip/3234523ysadgq5r4...

and it will redirect back to the original page

but i need to know how to do that.

If someone knows the download link to a file

nothing you do with your webpage thru conventional

code will work to prevent a download

If you are the domain adminstrator you can edit permissions

on the file so only requests from the domain pages

are accepted and others are denied

the usual process is a popup window that has been granted

a FTP access (hidden acct and pw) to the file

others that attempt to Http download are rejected

anon attempts to FTP are also rejected

If the site is just a homepage or free hosted page

there is absolutely nothing you can do
